EUR 17.6 million for research for scientists coming to Poland

EUR 17.6 million for research for scientists coming to Poland

announcement of the next edition of POLONEZ BIS

Following the success of the first edition, the National Centre of Science announces the POLONEZ BIS research and training programme.

The programme, co-financed under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie COFUND grant, will again be addressed to foreign scientists. Within the framework of three calls for proposals 120 experienced researchers will be recruited, who will move to the Vistula River for 24 months to conduct their basic research. Prof. Zbigniew Błocki, Director of NCN, underlines that POLONEZ BIS gives the scientists great independence. Scientists will independently select research subjects, discipline and the host unit.

Researchers who have a PhD degree or at least 4 years of full-time research experience and who lived and worked outside Poland for at least 2 years within 3 years before the date of the competition announcement will be able to apply for the internships.

Candidates will apply jointly with host institutions - their future employers in Poland. They may be, among others

  • research centers,
  • universities, scientific libraries,
  • museums, non-governmental organizations,
  • hospitals,
  • enterprises (the condition for participation of a company is having its registered office in Poland).

The host institutions will receive a 20% lump sum for indirect costs related to project management.

POLONEZ BIS, apart from EUR 4,465 gross monthly salary, will provide researchers with up to EUR 100,000 for carrying out research projects, including employment of teams. The grant will be supplemented by delegations to non-academic institutions and an attractive training programme. The implementation of POLONEZ BIS programme will be supported by partner organisations: Careers Research and Advisory Centre, Startup HUB Poland Foundation, Women of Science Foundation - Polish Network of Science Women, as well as Interdisciplinary Centre for Mathematical and Computer Modelling at the University of Warsaw.

The call for applications for the first competition will begin in September 2021, but NCN encourages you to read the terms and conditions of the program and follow its social media now. NCN will provide ongoing updates on preparations, answer applicants' questions, and share the results of the first round of the program.
