European Research Council has announced an open call for  applications under the "ERC Consolidator Grant" program - Horizon 2020 (call ID: ERC-2021-COG)

Purpose of call:

I would like to kindly inform you that the European Research Council has announced an open call for  applications under the "ERC Consolidator Grant" program - Horizon 2020 (call ID: ERC-2021-COG).

The ERC Consolidator Grant aims to support outstanding and experienced scientists who want to strengthen their scientific independence by creating or developing their own research team. The program is intended for researchers with the potential to become fully independent researchers, develop a research career at European level, and their ambitious projects will be groundbreaking.

The only criterion for evaluating the project is scientific excellence: the qualifications and achievements of the principal investigator, as well as the originality and scientific value of the idea.

Application evaluation is a two-step process. In the second stage, an interview with the author of the application is planned.

Terms and Conditions of Application:

  • Researchers who obtained their first doctoral degree between 1 January 2009 and 31 December 2013, inclusive, may apply for the grant (renewals are possible, in accordance with the rules set out in the Work Program).
  • The EC expects applicants to be able to demonstrate some significant publications in which they are the main author or which have been published without the participation of their promoter.
  • Candidates should be able to demonstrate achievements in their research field, including:
    • relevant publications (as lead author) in major international, multidisciplinary or specialized scientific journals;
    • patents;
    • speeches at recognized international scientific conferences;
    • received awards, distinctions, etc.
  • The project can be implemented in any institution, but it must be located in an EU member state or associated with the Horizon Europe program.
  • Projects can cover all scientific disciplines. The subject of the project is determined by the applicants themselves.
  • Highly scientific-risk projects that lead to important discoveries and breakthroughs will be highly appreciated.
  • The project financing is 100%.
  • The maximum amount of co-financing for a project is EUR 2 million (under certain conditions - up to EUR 3 million) for projects lasting up to 5 years.
  • Indirect costs represent 25% of direct costs, excluding subcontracting costs.

Application form:

  • Applicants are required to indicate in the Funding & Tenders Portal as a contact person on behalf of the JU the CAWP call supervisor.

I also encourage you to benefit from the JU Program of support for scientists applying for ERC grants launched on 11 July 2016.

Information about the Program is available on the CAWP website: cawp.uj.edu.pl/wsparcie-dla-naukowcow/erc

Application Deadline:

The call for proposals lasts until 20 April 2021 until 17.00.

Internal regulations of the Jagiellonian University:

In accordance with the Jagiellonian University Rector’s Directive No. 56 on July 11, 2016 on the rules of procedure for the preparation and implementation at the JU of projects financed from external sources, researchers interested in participating in the call should submit to the CAWP:

  • by 6 April 2021:
    • through the JU Project Zone: Research Project Notification Form and VAT Eligibility Form available at https://strefaprojektow.uj.edu.pl/. Instructions for filling in the forms are available at: https://cawp.uj.edu.pl/strefaprojektow
  • draft version of the application (electronic version sent in the form of a PDF file to the address of the call supervisor at CAWP),
  • by 20 April 2021, the final submitted version of the application (electronic version as a PDF file).

Out of concern for the quality of submitted project applications please consult applications and submit documents to the CAWP in earlier dates than mentioned above.
