Purpose of the call:

Scientific coordinators announce the MAESTRO 12 call for research projects for advanced investigators aiming to conduct pioneering research, including interdisciplinary research, which is significant for the development of science, goes beyond the current state of knowledge and may result in scientific discoveries.

Funds may be obtained in the call to cover remuneration for the research team, including scholarships for students and PhD students, purchase or manufacturing of research equipment and for other costs crucial to the research project.

Eligible applicants:

Under the call published by the NCN, proposals may be submitted in which the principal investigator is at least a PhD holder who, in the proposal submission year or over the period of 10 years prior to the proposal submission year:

  1. had at least five papers published in renowned Polish or international academic press/journals,
  2. acted as the principal investigator in at least two research projects funded in national or international competitive calls for proposals; acting as a principal investigator is also to be understood as managing/ coordinating the work of a research group in international research projects or programs;
  1. fulfilled at least three of the criteria below:
    has been a member of a scientific committee of at least one renowned international conference,
  2. has published at least one monograph, 
  3. has presented papers at renowned international conferences, 
  4. has received an international award or prize, 
  5. has been or was a member of renowned associations, international scientific organisations or academia, has other significant scientific achievements,

General rules:

  • In the call, research projects may be planned for a period of 36, 48 or 60 months.
  • The project should provide new, full-time jobs, for at least one person with a PhD (post post-doc), for a total period of at least 36 months and engagement of PhD student or PhD students, for the total period of at least 36 months pursuant to the Types of costs in research projects funded by the National Science Centre; Researchers who have been awarded a PhD degree by the host institution for the project cannot be employed as post-docs.
  • The project may plan the so-called doctoral scholarships for doctoral students who meet the requirements set out in the Act of 20 July 2018. "Law on Higher Education and Science".
  • The budget of the project should include the VAT value (VAT is an eligible cost in the project). All prices should be given in gross amounts. 
  • Indirect costs in the MAESTRO 10 call amount to 20% of direct costs, excluding costs of scientific research equipment, devices and software. Additionally, indirect costs of up to 2% of direct costs may be spent on Open Access to publications and research data.   
  • In the project budget, the purchase of a qualified signature in the amount of approximately PLN 305.00 (valid for two years) should be included.

Way of submitting proposals:

Proposals should be submitted in electronic form in the OSF system.

Internal regulations of the Jagiellonian University:

In accordance with the Jagiellonian University Rector’s Directive No. 56 on 11 July 2016 on the rules of procedure for the preparation and implementation at the JU of projects financed from external sources, researchers interested in participating in the call should submit to the CAWP:

  • by 24 August 2020, a draft agreement or guidelines to the agreement (consortium agreement)
    • If the applicant is a group of entities and the Jagiellonian University acts as a partner and the Leader has its own model of agreement - then the document should be sent to Ms Magdalena Duda, phone 12 663 28 27, magdalena.duda@uj.edu.pl,
    • In case the Jagiellonian University plays the role of the Leader in the project, please use the model agreement approved by the Jagiellonian University's Unit of Legal Advisors, which is attached as Annex 1 to this Announcement.
    • NOTE: Attaching a signed agreement in ZSUN/OSF system is a condition for blocking the application and generating appropriate confirmations.
  • by 4 September 2020 a working version of the application sent in a PDF file to the address of the CAWP call supervisor;
  • by 10 September 2020 a final version of the application sent in a PDF file to the address of the CAWP call supervisor, i.e.:
    • generated from the application system: option "Print PDF" with a file name according to the formula: Surname and first name of the project manager, program name, date of the document (Kowalski_Jan_MAESTRO_02_09_2020), together with e-mail acceptance of the manager of the unit in which the project will be implemented (i.e. Dean of the Faculty or Director of the unit, according to the specifics of the given unit). The head of the unit accepts the application in the content of the e-mail by placing the information - "I accept the application in the MAESTRO 12 call for proposals, ID number of the application: [information in the footnote of the application] of Mr/Mrs. ..."
    • generated from the ZSUN/OSF system, the document titled “Confirmation of submitting the proposal by an authorised representative” in a PDF file,
    • scan of the generated from the ZSUN/OSF system and signed by the Principal Investigator the document titled “Confirmation of submitting the proposal by the Principal Investigator”  with his qualified signature;

and

  • Project Registration Form filled electronically via the system called JU Strefa Projektów at the following webpage: https://strefaprojektow.uj.edu.pl/. The JU Strefa Projektów system will be active from 1 August 2020.
